The Boathouse restaurant

On the shores of Loch Insh, recently voted one of the top five views from any restaurant in Europe.  The 100 seater log cabin was recently upgraded and expanded but the original building still forms the main part of the restaurant which was built by hand using traditional techniques, chainsaws and chisels! by the owner and his family over 40 years ago. The Freshwater family still own and run the Boathouse set in 14 acres of the Cairngorm National Park. It’s a beautiful retreat for a quick bite to eat or an over night stay. It has some of the best views of the Spey Valley in any weather at any time of the day or night.  The light is always changing over the hills and loch to create a very atmospheric place for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Watching the sun go down is probably the best time of the day and as the nights draw in, candles add to the intimacy of an evening meal.

Our large glass balcony shelters you from the wind and means it’s possible to make the most of any sunny days, and enjoy the action on the loch.  Even if you don’t want to get wet yourself its great fun watching others that do!

The restaurant is where all meals are served if you are staying with us in our accommodation or a resident on one of our courses.

Let the day float by as you gaze out on the water. See if you can spot our resident Osprey fishing right off the shore front, a common occurrence from one of our window seats or the balcony in the summer.

Bring your camera to dinner watch the wildlife up close or capture that mesmerising sunset.

The Quarter deck bar

The Bar looks to the Loch but also overlooks the dry ski slope where you can keep an eye on the action of skiing, snowboarding and sledging. Smooth Cappuccinos, the biggest scones you have ever seen )all home made of course) as you warm yourself by the fire.

Weekends are always popular with big sports events shown on the big screen in the bar.

Mixed in with adventure sports from around the world and showing all the activities we do at loch Insh.

We also have a Pool table room in the other end of the restaurant.

WIFI throughout the restaurant and bar with a PC available to use for internet access.

Breakfast is served between 8:00 & 9:00 in summer and 8:30 to 9:30 in winter in the Boathouse Restaurant .

The restaurant is open all day serving a varied menu  from 10:00 to 10:00 last order are at 8.00pm,  (Reduced opening hours during the winter months)

New log stove installed in main seating area for this winter a great place to relax with a glass of mulled wine!
