Kingussie River Trip

We normally take 2 1/2 hours for this session as there’s lots to get through. Any shorter doesn’t do it justice!
The ultimate learning environment. Light consistent on shore winds and a boat to yourself. An enclosed teaching environment on the 700acre loch. Not to big not too small.
Any activity where the participant has control over their own direction and speed gives them a particular thrill.
Whenever possible kids will learn in a boat on their own or with a friend. Any children with prior experience may choose from the mass of dinghies we have on site, as long as prevailing conditions are right.
On windier days we have four 5 man keel boats and 3 man Wayfarers and Omegas which offer a safe and exciting sail in stronger winds, with greater stability for the more cautious learner.
We normally take 2 1/2 hours for this session there’s lots to master, balance and coordination along with the how to sail bit we try to introduce sailing before windsurfing whenever possible as it gives better results.
Windsurfing is a favourite when the water’s not too cold. We only start around the beginning of May and carry on until the end of September for this reason. With a little practice on the beach first, then a balancing session on the boards, then on with the sails. Whatever the weather you can be sure the kids will love this challenge.
We have a huge range of up to the minute equipment for all abilities as well as the best beginner boards for a taster session.
After putting your gear away relax under our hot showers and warm up in the Boathouse changing rooms with underfloor heating.!
This is done over 2 ½ hours too as it gives us plenty time to explore the loch. The basics are covered on land then into the bay area before setting off to explore. Getting round the two islands on the loch is normally achievable. Travelling 2-4 miles in the process.
The beauty of this activity is the kids must work in pairs or threes and therefore a great team building and social experiment every day. Watch them solve problems like wind direction and current, debate which way is faster, and achieve rewards for mastering these skills.
Full day river trips a great way to explore Insh Marshes. We start at Kingussie and paddle eight miles through the reserve having with a picnic on the way. For those who want to spend a little more time exploring the area. A great progression if you have done our introductory lesson.
Kayaking we introduce over a 2 ½ hour session too and try to have introduced Canadian canoeing first. We find greater success once the group has grasped the basics in the larger craft.
Kayaking is one of the favourites like windsurfing. The kids have their own boat and by mastering the skills, enjoy choosing their own route.
Great activity with water polo and tug-of-war games plus all the skills you need to paddle in a straight line!
Start with paddle skills and games followed by a short trip in the kayaks round the loch.
We also offer river trips in kayaks for the more experienced. This is an all day excursion from Kingussie or down to Aviemore with a pickup around three o’clock. Participants must have some experience, minimum of a full session on the loch first including capsize drill and a 50M swim. Our intro lesson in kayaks is the best way to access the river with no prior experience.
