Clive and Sally Freshwater

Andy Freshwater

Jonny Freshwater

Duncan Freshwater

Managing director, Clive has spent a life time coaching in sport. He started life as a professional footballer, then moved from that to do a teaching degree in Physical Education. After two years teaching he moved to work as an instructor at Glenmore Lodge where he met his wife Sally and they thought up the idea of doing the same thing for themselves. Clive has done every job at Loch Insh and now overseas the whole set up but is trying to retire!
Joint director with Clive and Andrew, Sally was involved in every aspect of the business at the start. She continues to oversee the management of the business and helps when necessary wherever needed but prefers to spend her time in the garden and grounds of Loch Insh keeping the place tidy with our resident gardener. She also closely monitors staffing and standards of housekeeping and the restaurant. Like Clive, Sally is now taking a back seat in the day to day management.
Andy is a Director and the principal of activities at Loch Insh. Andy has grown up like all the sons being able to fill any post needed at Loch Insh. Born in the valley and having Loch Insh as a playground Andy excelled in all sports from an early age. Skiing has shaped a large part of his life and after leaving school he travelled on the World Cup tour alongside Alain Baxter, Lesley McKenna his class mates at school and Martin and Graham Bell for 10 years. Three times British champion and with two World Championships and an Olympics under his belt he now spends his time back at Loch Insh coaching and overseeing all the activities offered by the centre. His remit includes hiring training and allocating the instructors. Looking after the equipment on site from buoyancy aids to microwaves to the hot tub! Teaching of groups when needed, making school visits. Keeping all the paperwork up to date, handling inspections by the various interested bodies, updating the website. This year a large part of his time in the winter has been in association with Hotscot producing this new website. KiwiTouristTV to make New videos, Supercontrol to make an online booking system for the accommodation and heading up the Ski School. In his spare time Andy commentates for Eurosport in the winter months, and works for BASI coaching new instructors a couple of weeks a year when things are quiet at the Loch Insh. Andy is married to Linda and has two young girls Lucy Jo and Tia Lily the third generation of Freshwaters watch out!
Jonny like Andy is a vital part of the Loch Insh experience. With the same background and living in this fantastic part of the world it was obvious that Jonny would excel at sport too. Jonny's main love is Windsurfing and he does it come rain or shine, in fact the rainier and windier the better. Jonny has done winters in many top windsurfing destinations working for some of the top windsurfing centres in the world. His current favourites are: Egypt, Margarita and Greece. Ask him about where to go after you have learned at Loch Insh. Jonny has now returned full-time as a summer and winter instructor. He is one of our chief instructors on the beach and will oversee activities alongside Andy. With a vast experience in coaching all the activities he will guide new instructors in the way we like things done. Jonny also heads up our snowboarding side of things when needed. Three years ago he started the 'Loch Insh Monsters' under the Team 15 initiative of the RYA, together with Simon, Alisha and Jacs they coach the current team who are Scottish Champions for the third year running and were 5th at the nationals last year. they hope to do better in 2009. With that coaching team they have every chance.
Duncan currently is working for Snowsport GB as their performance pathway manager. He is involved in pushing children through on to the national teams and currently coaches the British childrens team (<14) Duncan honed his skills at Loch Insh and also at Aberdeen University. He is a Qualified instructor in many of the activities at Loch Insh and is a BASI trainer. He is a great asset to the business especially on changeover days and weekends when these little jobs need doing. He also has been trained to skipper the tour boat and loves to do this because of his love for wildlife spotting!
Howard fills in the days when Martin is not in on general maintenance covering the same jobs. Howard started life at Loch Insh as an instructor over 10 years ago but moved on to work with the Hilton group. He is senior maintenance manager at their hotel in Aviemore but lives in Kincraig. However he has always had a love of sailing windsurfing and skiing and snowboarding which he hasn’t managed to get out of his system from his time working for the big holiday companies in the Med. He still teaches for us too if we are busy on the beach. He will cover Jonny and Andy on the beach post if needed as the chief instructor for the day.
Jemma has been with us for a year now and has been a fantastic help to the management of the centre. Jemma has taught and gained a number of qualifications whilst at Loch Insh and this year is one of the best qualified staff we have.
