Sailing is one of our most popular sports, perhaps because it’s accessible to everyone.

Whether you're looking for the thrills of a Dart 16, or the challenge of mastering a Seafarer (a small day boat with a keel, an altogether dryer experience!), there really is something for everyone.

Minimum age for learning to sail is six. Children will be taught in an Optimist dinghy on their own, weather permitting.

There is a lot that can go wrong in a sailing boat so before you can take one out yourself you require a little more instruction than other activities.

There are two schemes as with the Windsurfing, Adult and Child.

Over the last 37 years Loch Insh has been teaching and improving every aspect of learning the wide range of activities on offer.

We have been lucky enough over the years to have had some truly inspiring people working for us and leaving there mark on the high standard of instruction we now expect from all our staff.

Safety is paramount and we have strict in house training which conforms to all relevant national governing bodies guidelines.

Beyond that we know the importance of allowing instructors to express themselves when teaching to give a more personal and more enthusiastic approach to there lesson.

Our two day course will get you an RYA level 1 certificate and give you the confidence to practice a little more yourself.

The five day course brings you up to level 2, which is recognised internationally as the certificate required for hiring boats anywhere in the world.

We also run advanced RYA levels, Spinnakers, Seamanship skills, Trapezeing, Racing, Multihulls and Keelboats. In short all the awards apart from the day sailing one which has to be sea based. In addition all of these awards can be endorsed as done in either monohull keelboat or multihull.

Call to find out about our instructor courses which run each year. same as the Windsurfing we will run two a year normally at the start and end of the season and you can get more info on our instructor courses page.

The Challenger trimaran is the boat of choice for the RYA Sailability for which we have been recognised since 2005 as somewhere for disabled sailors can hire or take instruction. Access is easy from our specially adapted jetty.

We offer lessons and hire. In order to hire boats customers will be asked if they can "Rig it, Reef it and Right it!"  If you don’t know what this means then the answer is take a lesson!
