Our two day course is designed for instructors new to water sports enabling you to teach the BSUPA Level 1 Course.
Candidates should have a basic knowledge of SUP and ideally have a BSUPA “Ready To Ride Card”. Instructors will be expected to demonstrate short paddle-stroke, slow and fast paddle-stroke and recovery stroke.
Instructor candidates will give lectures and coach other students during the course. Instructor candidates will be assessed throughout the course on paddle skills, safety, group control and general SUP knowledge. There will be an exam and paddle test on the water. The course is divided up between the classroom and water and will cover site assessment, teaching psychology, weather, tides, rescue techniques and teaching drills. Finally, we will talk through SUP equipment and what’s “out there” to complete your SUP knowledge.
Certified Instructors can join our one day BSUPA Conversion Course if they hold valid NGB qualifications in paddle-sports, windsurfing, surfing, kite-surfing or sailing. The course costs £145, which includes a certificate and manual.
As per Level 1 Ready to Ride, it is assumed that candidates can demonstrate relevant transferable skills from their other instructing specialities, such as site assessment, group control and teaching psychology. The Conversion Course focuses on SUP specific content. Shadow teaching will not be required.
