RYA Sailing Scheme

A Perfect Place to learn

The Royal Yachting Association or RYA has a well-structured pathway to work through to help you develop your sailing skills from a young age right up to offshore racing, Olympics, and beyond.

Loch Insh is the perfect location to learn beginner to intermediate sailing because the Loch gets a clean wind. It is a large Loch but not so large that you’re too far from the shore.

Sailing is an immensely rewarding activity with massively diverse directions you can take to enjoy this sport all over the world.

2 & 5 day coursES

Whether you’re looking for the thrills of the Catamarans, or the challenge of mastering the single handers, there really is something for everyone at Loch Insh. Weather permitting, children will be taught in an Optimist dinghy on their own or with a friend. There is a lot to learn in a sailing boat, so before you can take one out yourself, you are required to have attended a course to get your RYA level 1 minimum.

Courses are split into adults and children to pitch the tuition at the perfect level for all. Our two day course will get you an RYA level 1 certificate and give you the confidence to practice on your own. Our five day course brings you up to level 2, which is recognised internationally as the certificate required for hiring boats anywhere in the world.

Inspiring Individuals

For the last 50 years, Loch Insh has been teaching and inspiring individuals in every aspect of the wide range of activities on offer at the centre. We have been lucky enough over the years to have had some truly inspiring people working for us, leaving their mark on the high standard of instruction we offer.

Safety is paramount, and we have strict in-house training, which conforms to all relevant National Governing Body’s guidelines.

Beyond that we know the importance of allowing instructors to express themselves when teaching to give a more personal and enthusiastic approach to their lesson.
