Loch Insh Ski School

The Best Scottish Skiiing Experience

We have taught skiing at the Centre and surrounding ski resorts since the business was founded by Clive Freshwater in 1969. Clive was the Chairman of BASI for 8 years in the 70’s. His sons, Andrew Freshwater and Duncan Freshwater, are currently BASI trainers teaching instructors all over the world.

We draw on this knowledge to create the best Scottish skiing experience you can find. Instructors are mentored in-house to ensure our snow sports packages provide a first class experience.

Only Loch Insh offers the flexibility of choosing which resort we work at each day based on the forecast. The Lecht is only an hour away and offers a safe environment for beginner to intermediate skiers. Cairngorm Mountain has the best beginner conditions when the wind is not too strong over the tops. In the event of both resorts being closed due to bad weather, we have the backup of our own 60m dry slope onsite at Loch Insh to fall back on.

Learn to Snowboard

Enjoy one of the coolest sports

Snowboarding is a completely different learning style to skiing. It may sound strange but the natural stance for snowboarding is chilled out, so if you’re a fan of easy and like to chill out a lot you’ll be a natural.

Get yourself out there and learn one of the coolest sports around.

Snowboarding requires a few lessons to become proficient. Our wee slope is a great place for the first few hours then book a day up the mountain to complete your learning and set you up to tackle the slopes in style.

The Loch Insh dry slope is the best place start for you and your family to learn at your own pace, away from the crowds on the mountain. 90 minute private lessons are only available on the Loch Insh slope. Half day lessons are available up Cairngorm only. Full day private lessons or guide days are available up the mountains of Cairngorm, Nevis Range or the Lecht.

To really crack snowboarding it’s best to book onto one of our snowboard courses. Here we aim to get you turning and able to descend the mountain in control and set you up to develop further on your own. Our BASI snowboard instructors will show you around and leave you well practiced in controlling the risk on the slopes, so everyone can enjoy the mountains in safety.

The more days coaching you have the further we can take you, by the end of our 5 day course you’ll be tackling your first rail, jumps and 180’s!

Equipment Hire Open Daily

Save time for the slopes

Hire your equipment from us and beat the queues up the hill!

Our ski hire is open 9am to 5pm (open later by arrangement) so we recommend getting your ski or board hire the night before so you can make an early start next morning.

Cairngorm Mountain can get very busy from early on so hiring from us not only gives you piece of mind, but it also saves you queuing.

We recommend you should aim to be at the Cairngorm car park by 8:15am.
