Speyside SuperStars

AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM

an exciting new afterschool learning experience.

Speyside SuperStars is an exciting new afterschool program designed to provide children with an inspirational learning experience in the activities of this area.

The programme will initially focus on primary school age children (5 – 12yrs) offering a structured after school schedule including homework session and music lessons indoors and exciting coaching sessions in Windsurfing, Sailing, or Canoeing on Water, Touch Rugby, Shinty or Ice Hockey on the pitch/rink and Skiing or Snowboarding on the dry slope or Cairngorm.

PARENTS MUST REGISTER THE CHILD FOR THESE SESSIONS IN ADVANCE AND REMAIN ON SITE DURING THESE SESSIONS.

THE CONCEPT

The aim of the SuperStars club is to both inspire youngsters in these core sports but to also give them sufficient time to develop along a performance pathway. To that end, the ‘Loch Insh Sports sessions will, weather depending, focus on a specific sport for a block of weeks to develop the performance before switching to another sport as the weather changes.

Shinty is delivered in association with Kincraig Junior Shinty club and takes place AFTER the regular SuperStars programme normally finishes at 5:30, with shinty normally finishing 7:00pm. Parents wishing for their children to participate in the shinty should utilise the evening meal option and they will be escorted along to the shinty pitch for this session.
Shinty will be played all year round and will go indoor to the Kincraig Village Hall in the winter months.

Touch Rugby will be delivered in conjunction with Highlife Highland coaches but will only be played in the Easter – October blocks.

Ice Hockey on our artificial rink will be played through the winter in the October – Easter blocks.

The option of music tuition and indoor classwork for enhancing reading and numeracy will be offered throughout the year however in all cases participation will be driven by the same philosophy of children committing for a block of weeks.

Music lessons are being delivered in conjunction with Feis Spe tutors and will be available all year.

For younger children under 8yrs all music sessions will be delivered in 1hr group sessions of up to 8 children. For children over 8yrs, as well as groups sessions, 30min individual lessons will be available.

Finally, there will also be the option of three free 1hr sessions per week, in Touch Rugby, Shinty and a Loch Insh Activity Session (not music).

To access these, parents must transport their children to the activities independent of Loch Insh transport and the child can only participates in the activity and not the homework session or snack. Parents must register the child for sessions in advance and remain on site during these sessions.
